The Child Protection Social Work Team has statutory responsibility for dealing with child welfare and protection concerns. This team comprises of 39 Social Work staff plus a Community Child Care Team of 12.
Duty Social Work Service
The Duty Social Work Service is available for members of the public who have a child welfare or protection concern which they want to report or discuss. The service operates Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm. Calls are taken by the Duty Social Worker who is part of the Intake and Assessment Team.

Intake & Assessment Team
The Intake & Assessment Social Work Team receive referrals in relation to children and families from many sources such as doctors, nurses, schools, Gardai, family members or referrals from the public. The Intake & Assessment Team has a statutory obligation to establish if a child is at risk of harm; a child is having difficulties or if a family requires support. The team also has a duty to make the general public aware of the dangers to children from organisational/institutional abuse and to intervene where necessary to ensure the safety of children.
