This research which focuses on young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), was named as a priority in the Wexford Children and young People's Plan 2020-2023, click here to access.

The research was co-funded by Wexford CYPSC, Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board and Wexford County Council. An interagency steering group was formed to guide the project. The steering group was committed to ensuring that the voices of young people were heard throughout the research. Thank you to all the young people who contributed to the research through focus groups and the agencies who supported them to do so.

An implementation plan has been identified and we are looking forward to continuing the collaborative approach when rolling out the recommendations.

National "Breastfeeding Awareness Week" - Video and Supports

The Health and Diversity Sub Group of Wexford CYPSC have prepared a communication piece that features some of the events that are happening to promote National Breastfeeding Week 2022. Click here to view.

The theme for National Breastfeeding Week 2022 was "Feeding the Future, Supporting Breastfeeding through a Pandemic and Beyond". To celebrate this, a video to support and promote breastfeeding was developed by Wexford CYPSC in association with teh HSE and Wexford Public Library Service. Click here to view. They are joined by Stephanie Murray (Clinical Midwife Specialist in Lactation, Wexford General Hospital), Nuria Tasies (Domino Midwife Lead WGH) and Alexandra Fenton (Breastfeeding Counsellor with Cuidiú).

#HereForYouSouthEast Regional Bereavement Support Campaign 2021

The HSE Regional Suicide Resource Office, in collaboration with the Children & Young People's Services Committees and the Healthy County Committees in the South East Community Healthcare region are hosting a Bereavement Support Campaign. Commencing on September 6th 2021 and over the course of eight weeks, eight organisations that provide services and supports to people who are experiencing grief and loss will be profiled. Each week, an information sheet, promotional video and other helpful resources will be released. There will also be materials that you can use on your social media channels. Young People & Mental Health Referral Guidelines Poster

The Young People and Mental Health Sub Group of Wexford CYPSC developed a poster with referral guidelines to child and youth mental health services in Co. Wexford. The poster was launched at an event in the Riverside Park Hotel on February 5th 2020 and is being circulated to G,P’s, schools and professionals who work with children and young people.

Wexford CYPSC has created an information leaflet targeted at children and young people. The leaflet was designed with assistance from the Teen Girls Group at Youth New Ross. It contains information on CYPSC and the 5 national outcomes in “Better Outcomes Brighter Futures”. It also directs readers to the Wexford CYPSC website www.wexfordcypsc.ie for more information on services and supports for children, young people and families and signposts to the Wexford Children and Young People's Plan.

"Shut Down Cyber Bullying"

Education Resource Pack to tackle cyber bullying
for secondary school teachers & students
Developed by Wexford Comhairle na nÓg

The theme of cyber bullying was identified as an important issue by Wexford Comhairle na nÓg as a result of their own experiences and the experiences of family members and friends. Cyber Bullying was elected as the main theme by majority vote at the Comhairle AGM in 2013. We began to explore the issue, research and create. SHUT DOWN CYBER BULLYING educational resource pack is the result of our work.

The wonderful world of the world wide web presents many opportunities, knowledge and resources to young people. It provides them with a place to express themselves and connect with like minded people. However it is also a place where young people can be very vulnerable and sometimes young people find themselves in situations that can have serious consequences. We are hoping that the activities in this resource pack will stimulate conversation to inform students of the dangers of being online and encourage them to think about responsible online behaviour and how to protect themselves whilst online, we are hoping that the outcomes of the students work can be shared with the wider school community. We believe that the best ways to prevent cyber bullying is Education. We all need to be educated, children, young people, parents, teachers and professionals working with children and young people. We need to learn about our roles and responsibilities as members of online communities. We need to learn how to develop strategies and respond to bullying. We need to prevent it from happening at all. This educational resource has been designed to support these learnings in the classroom. Based on our own reflections and experiences as young people we hope the activities and information provided will create a valuable learning space for you and your students in preventing cyber bullying.

The “Just Be You” Programme Resource Pack

The “Just Be You” Programme was developed through Wexford CYPSC with the assistance of Seed Funding for the Participation of Children & Young People. The main aims of the programme were to raise awareness of LGBTI issues within schools and to aid the development of self-sustaining student-led supports in the school based around the TFLAG model from America.

Initially 6 schools throughout Co. Wexford were targeted. The programme comprises 4 sessions and upon completion the schools received a Resource Pack. The Programme development was led by the LGBTI Project Worker at FDYS Youthwork Ireland. It was a student-led programme and participating students had an important role to play in the development of the programme and the resulting Resource Pack. The Resource Pack is available to download here and also on the FDYS website.
